Lucy and Mike have carried out extensive work on the garden over recent years to add variety and year round interest to the pre-existing mature shrubs and trees. Mike is the brains behind the hard landscaping and Lucy spends all her available time on the planting and propagation. We have added new borders, a water feature, pergolas, paved and decked seating areas, a herb garden, an extensive vegetable plot, an orchard with some unusual local varieties of apple, a large fruit cage for soft fruits, a polytunnel for propagation and salad growing, and a small copse of native trees. The garden provides vegetables, fruit and flowers for the house and sometimes we have surpluses available for guests to purchase. We also sell a few plants which we have propagated. There are plenty of sheltered spots to sit and to feast your eyes on the views, to watch the narrow boats passing, or to enjoy the birdlife.
The garden has been accepted under the National Gardens Scheme and opens to the public to raise funds for charity on a few days each year. It is also open at other times by prior appointment. If you wish to avoid these dates please check when you book.
There are a number of other gardens in the area which are also part of the National Gardens Scheme. Use the links to find details of their opening times as the majority open for very limited periods.
